Creating the demand for a new category isn't marketing, it's something that no one else has. I have a set of skills that most could never learn. How to turn that into a category? Well, I'm not there yet. Companies make the mistake of building things to sell, which is nice, but rarely is it something people need. And most of the time, they don't know they need it. Companies leverage data to enhance their category design in terms of what sells, but data is formed from human existence. While it can be, data isn't always mathematical. It's biographical. Being a missionary is caring about a cause to the point that you'd carry it to the ends of the earth, to whoever will listen, but being a mercenary is being the one who's willing to fight for it. Fighting for something you have faith in. Someone who can walk into a problem - a business, a person, a question - and immediately find the human truth underneath it. That's where you find your category. (I should add that I've only made it to the Magic Triangle. I just discovered this human element of profit.)
